Interview

Where did you born? And what is your academic training?

Gilberto Salvador – was born in São Paulo, Capital. I graduated in architecture from the Faculty of architecture and urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP).

How and when you give your first contact with the Arts?

Gilberto Salvador – My first solo exhibition took place in 1965, at the art gallery of the Arena Theatre in São Paulo, at the invitation of actor Gianfrancesco Guarnieri.

How did you find this gift?

Gilberto Salvador – I think that making art is not a gift but a proposal of human beings to communicate with other, so dreamlike and philosophically plausible. It's all a way to position themselves generous and respectful with the universe.

What are your main influences?

Gilberto Salvador – I think to the extent that the artist is willing to have an open and prejudiced reading with life, all information will contribute to its development. Art is the art world, but life without pré-qualquer thing. In a few moments were artists, in other musicians, scientists, mathematicians and why don't chefs. The artist is what makes the amalgam of the spirit and for that there is no direct personal influence, But countless and endless, depends on the stance of this artist with the life. You see I'm talking about art and not applied art.

My best reference is the humanism and spiritualism without religion.

Vitória Régia, Parque do Chapadão Campinas

What materials do you use in your works?

Gilberto Salvador-All and any material, depends on the time that I'm creating, can be paints, copper sheets, stones, wood, bronze, aluminum, ur, glass and numerous resins and so on, I want to make it clear that I'm not a painter or sculptor, recorder, designer, etc. I am an artist who uses the visual language in its full, I am what is known commonly as an artist-plastic, that is, move and produce fundamentally useless.

What is your creative process itself? What inspires you?

Gilberto Salvador – my production process normally goes through two stages, a mental and other conceptual, where some aesthetic issues are addressed for, in a second moment, be resolved technically. When I create, I don't need, necessarily, be drawing, painting or materializing any idea, There is a moment of pure insight I can set some solutions, including techniques. In the second stage of realization of the idea, however, may occur, amid the Executive process, conceptual and aesthetic changes. They are generators of other works. In other words, hardly a work my will be disconnected from other. I have experienced this experience, even when it comes to differentiated brackets. In no time my creative process passes through a preconceived notion, because I believe that, in my work, were rare occasions where some of them had a mind-set of its existence. At the end, I use a dialectic esthetics, to develop my language, whose poetry is a detail so important as the structure. Assuming this concept, whether I'm working with a technique, with a theme, or with different spaces. The dialectical thinking to me is essential. In the case, a key issue is the speech between the organic and the geometric, as this takes place in space and time of my entire work.

When you started effectively to produce or create your works?

Gilberto Salvador – Sorry, but there is no time, because I never had the goal of being an artist, I simply am and make art, so to be honest with this question I would have to say that was the day 16 December 1946, the day I was born.

Art is an intellectual production exquisite, where emotions are embedded in the context of creation, but in art history, we see that many artists are derived from other, following technical and artistic movements through time, you own any model or influence of any artist? Who would be?

Gilberto Salvador – As cultural production, the result will always be the result of a sum of knowledge already developed and the art is part of the unusual result that the artist brings us. There is no model or trend that only exists in applied arts, type sets, industrial design, architecture, decoration, not in art, or are we not talking about this. Bucovisky, Bach, Vivaldi, Eiffel, Waldemar Cordeiro, Einstein, Vila-Lobos and many others influenced me. Let me make you understand I'm not worried about creating style, for me art is an open door for an essentially loving speech, just this.

What does art mean to you? If you were to summarize in a few words the meaning of Arts in your life…

Gilberto Salvador-love of life.

Gilberto Salvador – every artist?

I can't believe, I prefer Yes believe in a context of language and poetic, or he could be a Baker, gas pump Jockey. The artist is he, If not way this formative thinking is fundamentally academic and no agreement with this.

School of art form artist, but technicians who circumstantially, can, and this rarely, become artists, for the most part become, teachers, critics or curators, but artists? I have my doubts!!!!

Oxum Obalá

Do you have other activities besides the art currently? You give lessons, lectures etc.?

Gilberto Salvador – my other activity is to be an observer to its fullest, I want to know everything that can interest me, as politics, economy, Biology, medicine, sex, Agriculture, Geography, that is, I always know.
