Funk, Identity and Territory: Sea of Cultures promotes chat about the music genre

Globo project takes this Thursday, at 19h, debate with DJ Malboro,
Mateus Aragão and Mc Leonardo at the Globo Kiosk

Movement originating from the peripheries and favelas of Rio de Janeiro, funk is the theme of the next Sea of ​​Cultures, day 3 September, Thursday, at 19h. In the presence of DJ Marlboro, Mateus Aragão and Mc Leonardo – subject matter experts –, Quiosque da Globo will promote a chat about funk as a musical and artistic genre, in addition to its contribution to the consolidation and strengthening of the cultural identities of the territories. This edition of the project is a partnership with Rio Parada Funk, event that will have its fifth edition on 13 September in the city center.

Main highlight of the funk carioca movement of the years 80, Fernando Luis Mattos da Matta, o DJ Malboro, was one of those responsible for disseminating the genre in the country and propagating the rhythm on an international scale. Also for conversation, Globo invited Mateus Aragão, cultural producer, organizer of Instituto Eixo Rio and creator and coordinator of Rio Parada Funk and Eu Amo Baile Funk, e Mc Leonardo, singer-songwriter and founder of APAFUNK (Association of Professionals and Friends of Funk). At the end of the chat, there will also be a special participation of the boys from Passinho Brasil, show that counts, through the memories of a young man, the origins and influences of the movement.

About Rio Parada Funk:

Inserted in the Official Calendar of the City since 2013, Rio Parada Funk reaches its fifth edition and holds the biggest funk party in the world on Sunday, day 13 September, from 10:00 to 8:00 pm, in downtown Rio. This year, the event will take place simultaneously on three stages, dubbed by DJ Marlboro: Soul Funk by Laba, Bass Funk in Praça Tiradentes and Parada Funk in Carioca. Each one will honor a style and will bring together four sound teams and around 100 artists, selected by a team of top curators, known as “Funk Advisers”. Among them, Marlboro DJs and Music Producers, Grandmaster Raphael, little bat, Sany Pitbull, in addition to the members of the collective Eu Amo Baile Funk.
