Francophone Week 2021 celebrates the french language

Francophonie Week celebrates the French language and culture of Francophone countries with a varied online program of 15 to 20 March

Under the motto “Breathe, you speak French” (Breathe, do you speak French) highlights of this edition are the exclusive shows by the renowned French singer Pauline Croze and the singer Severin; the “Short in French” exhibition of French-speaking short films, in partnership with SESC SP; the musical and poetic experience “Lounge chair, music and poetry”By the Pelouse group and a gastronomic live with chef Frédéric Monnier

The refined program is promoted by the French Embassy and the French Alliances network in the country, broadcast on YouTube and Twitch channels

On 20 March is International Francophone Day, created with the mission of promoting the French language worldwide. In Brazil, the programming of Francophone Week 2021 is promoted by the French Embassy and the French Alliances network in the country, bringing together several virtual cultural events under the theme “L’air” (the air).

With the motto “Breathe, you speak French” (Breathe, do you speak French), the events in the areas of music, audiovisual, performing arts, visual arts, gastronomy and literature will be broadcast online in the week of 15 to 20 March. The daily schedule is divided between:

The “Francophone Nights” series with launches and live broadcasts at 7 pm

Viral workshops and Pop Up events for children and adults, are also part of the programming.

Among the events scheduled, stand out “Short in French” online show of French-speaking short films, in partnership with the SESC SP; to musical and poetic experience “Chaise longue, music and poetry ” of the group Pelouse; of gastronomic live with chef Frédéric Monnier; addition to the opening of the Francophone with exclusive presentations by Pauline Croze and Séverin.

On day 20 March and throughout the month, to Francophone Festival celebrates the democratization of French language and culture around the world. Currently more than 300 millions of people across five continents speak French, segundo dados do Observatory of the French language, and more than 80 states are part of the International Francophone Organization (OIF). This year, the 10 words chosen by the French Ministry of Culture for 2021 and that inspired the theme of Francophone Week: family, allure, buller, air chamber, to take off, wind power, foehn, fragrance, to breathe, vaporous.

The online programming will be presented on Aliança Francesa Rio de Janeiro and Aliança Francesa Brasil channels on YouTube and Twitch.

MUSIC: OPENING OF FRANCOPHONY WITH EXCLUSIVE PRESENTATIONS BY PAULINE CROZE AND SÉVÉRIN

The opening of Francophone Week in Brazil will feature musical performances by French artists Pauline Croze and Séverin. In partnership with o What The France, reference mark of the Center National de la Musique – CNM, to French Alliance and the French Embassy in Brazil present concerts specially recorded by the artists for the occasion.

CINEMA: “SHORT IN FRENCH” SHOW

To celebrate the Francophone, the French Alliance and the French Embassies, Switzerland and Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI), in partnership with SESC São Paulo, prepared a free program of short films in French, available on the SESC São Paulo platform from 15 March to 15 April. The eleven selected works – 2 swiss movies, 2 Belgian films and 7 french movies – represent the contemporary audiovisual production of these countries and the cultural diversity of the French-speaking community. FOTONOVELA CONTEST

Photonovels are sequential narrations using photographs instead of illustrations for the images, narrative text and word balloons for dialogue. Although much less common than comics, photonovels have been very popular at different times.

Within the scope of Francophone 2021, the French Alliance and the Educational Cooperation Service of the French Embassy in Brazil present a photonovela contest on the subject: “Breathing in French”, using the 10 Francophone words. Participate and invent your story with the proposed paintings!

The launch of the contest will take place along with the webinar Discovering the operation «Dis-moi dix mots» and the information for participation will be available on the website of AF Rio (www.rioaliancafrancesa.com.br).

LUNCH WITH ... – EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS

On a schedule designed to keep you company at lunchtime, Exclusive interviews with French and French-speaking artists and professionals will be available from 15 to 19 March, always at 12pm, on channels YouTube of the French Alliance Brazil and French Alliance Rio de Janeiro.

The interviews will be, in your most, in French and subtitled in Portuguese, offering the opportunity for the Brazilian public to know more about their artistic productions while practicing the understanding of the French language. Respondents will be Julien Humbert, advisor to the French National Center for Music in Latin America; Frédéric Monnier, French chef resident in Rio de Janeiro and Maître French cook; Claire Diao, French filmmaker of Burkina Faso origin; Benoît Fournier, French photographer residing in Rio de Janeiro; and the musicians Raquel Rihan Cypel and Bidu Campeche, creators of the Tucaninho Musical project.

Julien Humbert, advisor to the French National Music Center in Latin America will talk about the export of music produced in France in this geographical area. French film critic and distributor of Burkina Faso origin. Claire Diao created on 2013 an itinerant program of short films Quartiers Lointains and was one of the founders of the pan-African magazine AWOTELE in 2015. Since 2016, Claire acts as manager of Sudu Connexion distributor. He received the Beaumarchais award from the Society of Authors and Composers Drámaticos with his book Double Vague, the new breath of French cinema (editora Devil Vauvert, 2017) in 2018. Previously, faith animadora do programa Ciné Le Mag e cronista para Le Cercle no Canal Plus. She is also a member of the selection committee of the Quinzaine des Realisateurs in Cannes, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and the Academy of Caesar short films committee. Benoît Fournier (1981, France) is visual artist, lives between France and Brazil. He studied at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage, in Rio de Janeiro. In his photography work, installation, print and video Benoît builds a visual world whose core is the harmony between man and his natural habitat. It is through poetic productions situated between the real and the imaginary that his work marks the link between personal and collective memories. In this way, the artist proposes an intimate and profound look at this relationship of being with the world.

Unprecedented concerts by French artists will open Francophone Week in Brazil.

French singer Pauline Croze opens Francophone Week 2021 in Brazil with an intimate mini-concert at Studio des Variétés in Paris. Pauline accepted the invitation of What The France, reference mark of the Center National de la Musique – CNM, in collaboration with the French Embassy and the French Alliances in Brazil, to celebrate French culture week in the country. With your voice and guitar, Pauline Croze will propose a journey through covers of the great Brazilian songs and also reveal the new tracks from her next album scheduled for release in the fall., where the song mixes with the rhythms of contemporary urban pop.

Following, Séverin, pop singer, accompanied by Jérémie Arcache on keyboard and cello and by Mathias Fisch on percussion, will present songs from his last two albums, along with covers of Franco-Brazilian classics.

TUESDAY, 16 OF MARCH - GASTRONOMY – LIVE COM CHEFS FRÉDÉRIC MONNIER & FRÉDÉRIC DE MAEYER

The bosses Frédéric Monnier and Frédéric de Maeyer prepare an unforgettable gastronomic night, with the best of French and Belgian cuisine. Transmitted directly from the bistro of the Alliance Française of Botafogo, live will teach you how to prepare a typical french dish and a dessert made with one of the greatest traditions in Belgium, the chocolate. Input, we will have a video of Guy Ravet, chef suíço à frente do “Ermitage des Ravet”, at Vufflens-le-Château, bringing a typical Swiss recipe: to salty beer.

Frederic Monnier, enshrined in 2013 com o título Master Cook of France, dedicates a large part of his time in the training of gastronomy professionals as Chef Ambassador of Senac and actively participates in agroecological actions in favor of a responsible and sustainable cuisine. Belgian chef Frédéric de Maeyer commanded, for almost two decades, one of the main restaurants in Rio, the Eça, in the city center, being awarded numerous times by the main gastronomy juris of the country not only for its menu and technique, but for the perfection in dealing with chocolate.

Lounge chair, music and poetry is a musical and sound collection of literary and poetic texts by francophone authors. A kind of anthology as subjective as it is diverse, of ten texts spoken by the French singer and writer Xavier Machault and played with Quentin Biardeau and Martin Debisschop, of the music group PELOUSE, whose new album will be released in September. A tour through the French Alliances of Brazil network is being planned to 2022.

In the meantime, some usage tips: put on headphones, sit on a lounger (or lie on the floor if you prefer), make sure you are alone(to) in front of yourself, close your eyes and let yourself go (poetry takes care of everything).

We will present the first of a series of interviews with photographers awarded by the French Alliances network photography contest in Brazil, conducted by members of the edition jury. In order to maintain a sound memory of French-speaking literature and to value the work of the great female figures of our literary heritage, the French Alliance Network in Brazil offers audio reading of Brumes from fjords. This collection of poetic prose by Renée Vivien (1877 – 1909) was published in 1902 and highlights both the personified nature and mythical beings. A author, nicknamed “The Muse with Violets“, here develops a writing of the invisible and the mystery that opposes the prosaic realism of the previous century.

ABOUT THE FRENCH ALLIANCE

With 135 years of activities in Brazil 2020, the French Alliance is a reference in the language and, no doubt, the best-known institution in the world, when it comes to the spread of the French language and Francophone cultures. Has, currently, more than 830 units 132 countries, where they study about 500.000 students. In France, it has schools and cultural centers for foreign students. Brazil has the world's largest network of French Alliances with 37 associations and 68 units.

Is the only institution in Brazil authorized by the Embassy of France to apply the tests that give access to the DELF and DALF diplomas international, recognized by the French Ministry of National Education. The Alliance Française is also official examination centre for international testing validity of two years TCF (The French Knowledge Test) TEF and Canadian (French Assessment Test) and the national test valid for one year Capes (recognized by agencies CAPES and CNPq MEC).

This year, in celebration of its 135th anniversary, the French Alliance will have lot of news. Amongst them, the change in teaching method, that will bring greater dynamism to the classrooms, with digital tools and current content on all French-speaking culture, transforming lessons into real centers of debate of ideas and collaborative learning.
