Aldo Bonadei, Alfredo Ceschiatti, Alfredo Volpi, Anita Malfatti, Antonio Gomide, Cândido Portinari, Clóvis Graciano, By Cavalvanti, Djanira, George Przyrembel, Heitor Villa Lobos, Gino Bruno, Mario de Andrade, Paulo Rossi Osir, Samsom Flexor, Sylvio Alves, Thomaz Ianelli, Victor Brecheret, have works inIt's Sacred, It is Modern – Sacred Art of the Modernists”. Although not everyone participated in the "Week of 22”, lived together, were friends, exchanged experiences and influenced each other. Anita Malfatti, “Mother of Brazilian Modernism”, was the precursor. It was the trigger that drove the aesthetic renovation, after gathering knowledge base through studies in Europe and the United States. One of the first painters who risked painting in her own way, boldly to play with colors and shapes. It is fair to say that the vast majority of São Paulo artists and intellectuals in the 1990s 20, knew each other and frequented. Anita Malfatti was very close to Tarsila do Amaral, because the families were friends. In Paris, Anita had his studio close to that of Brecheret and had socializing during the 5 years he lived there. Anita was, also, great encourager of Di Cavalcanti, came to teach him, when he came from Rio de Janeiro to live in São Paulo. Volpi, Bonadei, Gomide, Portinari, Gino Bruno and Sylvio Alves, one way and another, they knew each other, lived together or were friends.

At the exhibition, you have the opportunity, maybe first, of a contact directed to a set of works of the modernist production of Sacred Art, the paint is, sculpture, music or literature. Architecture was also included because, after 100 years, access to the plans and sketches of the “Taperinha”, conceived in a neocolonial style and presented by Przyrembel at the Week of 22. By his side, the sketches of the project of one of his best known works in São Paulo, the Basilica of Nossa Senhora do Carmo. ‘Consciously or unconsciously rooted, the sacred themes continued to be addressed by modernist artists, that from a new aesthetic produced, often seen as profane, brought new perspectives to the sacred”, emphasizes curation.

“The purpose of bringing together works by these modern artists, sacred, certifies in a palpable way, the religiosity impregnated in each of them through family influence, and, of the great masters”, explains Beatriz Cruz.
