F's debut book. C. Edwin, The Hosts of Death – Contamination addresses zombies and government conspiracy
A group of people are trapped inside a shopping center along with an unknown threat that turns humans into violent and irrational creatures.. It is with this premise that F. C. Edwin debuts in horror and science fiction literature. Graduated in Letters, to author, who was once a Portuguese teacher, and who currently works in a coffee shop, has been a fan of the genre since he was seven years old. But it is ironically in the midst of the current world scenario also taken by mass contamination, who The Hosts of Death - Contamination appears ready to please fans of the most graphic and visceral stories.
“Assinei contrato com a editora em setembro, and, Unfortunately, por coincidência, estamos vivenciando essa terrível doença de fácil contágio que surgiu em escala global”, explica a autora. E ainda bem que a coincidência para por aí.
Concebido como o primeiro de uma possível trilogia, já nas primeiras páginas o livro mostra pessoas, entre clientes e funcionários do Imperial Shopping Center, que são misteriosamente trancadas pela polícia e pelo exército nesse local blindado e sem chance alguma de fuga. Fã saudosa de livros e filmes do gênero, Edwin buscou referências entre seus autores e cineastas que formaram sua habilidade criativa, such as, Stephen King, George Romero e Chris Carter, which made The Hosts of Death become a curious “revamped” result of many horror sources and their subgenres.
The author clarifies that the villains of The Hosts of Death, what she named “the hemorrhagics” are not exactly “zombies”, in the literal sense of the word, because they are living people, but who were infected with the enigmatic disease kept under lock and key by high-ranking officials inside the mall. They are not dead. Are infected. “Dangerously infected.” With the chaos inside, the location is quarantined. Outside, a crowd gathers to see what is happening on the other side of the armored walls. The press logically arrives at the scene. And far away, a select number of men in suits also attended the fateful event at the Imperial Shopping Center.
Despite many violent scenes, The Hosts of Death – Contamination, recently released by Editorial Group Coherence, It is not done just with the aim of shocking. The work also brings between the lines its good dose of criticism, and, as the author suggests, “You can read The Death Hosts in two ways: the first, like a tension, graphic and electrifying horror story; and the second, as a metaphor for our flawed social system, political and moral”. The book can be purchased through the publisher's website.
