Casa Museu Eva Klabin and Inclusartiz open solo exhibition by Kika Carvalho on the day 7 of december

“Overseas” brings together unpublished works, among paintings, cyanotypies, installations and collages from the artist's deep research on blue color and its function in language and social construction

Fruit of the partnership between Eva Klabin Museum House and the Institute Includedartiz, the program of Artistic Residency “EDEN its second edition reaches with the exhibition Overseas”, by the artist capixaba Carvalho Small.

The individual, that will be open to the public at Casa Museum Eva Klabin, at Thursday, day 7 of december, gathers 20 Works - including unpublished works -, among paintings, cyanotypies, facilities and collages developed from the artist's deep research on blue color and its function in material relations, historical and social over the centuries. The curator is Lucas Albuquerque.

For the curator, The opportunity to work with the collection of the Eva Klabin Museum Casa collection allows you to think curatorial and research projects capable of moving contemporary production to other places of meaning, expanding the dialogue between times and the critical fortune of guest artists.

The choice of Kika's work is precisely in this place: enable the revelation of data inherent in your poetic research interest that is sometimes sublimated by the speed of everyday life. In this sense, The research period with the collection so rich establishes other times, both production and perception, that the artist, on the other hand, aims to subvert in its occupation. Promote new readings not only of the present, but also from the past, in a spiral thinking”, reveals Lucas Albuquerque, who is also a curator of the InclusalIrtiz residence program.

Victory (ES), Kika Carvalho elected blue as the object of her research, now relating to the landscapes of the island city where he was born and lived much of his life, now with aspects of the history of painting. Making use of this affective data, Kika incorporates blue as data from a distant photographic memory, that challenges not only your personal memories as a black woman, but also the Brazilian history and its relations beyond, In the Great Kalunga - Word of the Banto Language which means sacred place, of protection.

I produced specific jobs for this exhibition because I believe this is a unique opportunity to dialogue face to face with pieces of a culture that contributed a lot to my research and my fascination with the blue color. It is also an opportune occasion to discuss the history of art and the war of narratives that surrounds the displacement of the Egypt of the African continent. When we think of the achievements of the ancient Egyptians, This story moves from that continent or even from planet Earth, opening the possibility of extraterrestrials contributed great achievements. Something that fascinates me a lot”, concludes the artist.

Idealized by the Institute Included and held at Casa Museum Eva Klabin, The program “EDEN”It aims to investigate the house and the collection resulting from the eight decades of Eva Klabin's collecting (1903-1991). With one of the most important collections of classic art in Brazil, that covers a temporal arch of almost 50 centuries, The union of the two institutions is based on the desire to invite contemporary artists to promote new frequencies within the house and the collection through the creation of unpublished works, done from the research conducted in conjunction with the curator and museology teams. The first edition of the program was attended by Rio artist Ayla Tavares and culminated in the exhibition “Ungo”, held between May and July 2023, also under the curatorship of Lucas Albuquerque.
