MAM São Paulo announces exhibition schedule 2024

The first semester's agenda features a major retrospective of African-American photographer George Love, installations by artists Emmanuel Nassar and Rodrigo Sassi, and individual works by artists Santídio Pereira and Ângelo Venosa. Not second semester, All MAM expository spaces will be occupied by the 38th Panorama of Brazilian Art

The Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo presents its exhibition programming 2024.

The news agenda starts in 29 February, with a great retrospective of the African American photographer George Love (1937 – 1995) In the Milú Villela Room. Curated by José de Boni, The show brings to the public views a selection of the file left by the photographer – and conserved by the curator, who was also your friend – and relevant objects of its history.

Born in Charlotte, in North Carolina (USA), George Love came from a simple and cultured family. Started young in the photograph, He lived and studied in New York, where he started a successful career in photography.

Arrived in Brazil in the decade of 1960 at the invitation of Claudia Andujar, your companion until 1974 and with whom he performed work in partnership, Like the Amazon Photolivro (1978), Fruit of raids in the region.

The exhibition Displayed on Mam makes a timeline of Love's work, and brings together advertising, editorials, copyright, records of their raids with Andujar in the Amazon and more.

On the same day of the opening of the George Love show, The Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo inaugurates an facility of the artist Rodrigo Sassi in the wall.

In 02 April, Paulo Figueiredo Room receives an individual from the artist Santídio Pereira. Natural of Isaías Coelho, in Piauí, Santídio makes use of woodcut and painting, in particular, to materialize your imagetic repertoire and research interests like Brazilian biomes, The Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, The Cerrado and the Amazon.

Closing the first half schedule, in 13 June Milú Villela Room receives an individual from the artist Ângelo Venosa (1973 – 2022), one of the most emblematic sculptors of the so -called generation 80. Curated by Paulo Venâncio Filho, The show is an itinerance of Casa Roberto Marinho, of Rio de Janeiro, and includes venous works that are in the Mam São Paulo collection.

Not second semester, the museum is preparing to receive in all its exhibition spaces the 38º Panorama of Brazilian Art, Biennial and Fundamental Show in the history of MAM, opening in 3 October. Curated by Germano Dusha and Thiago de Paula Souza, The project entitled Thousand degrees Indicates the objective of the curators in drawing a multidimensional horizon of the contemporary artistic production of Brazil, Critically elaborating the current reality of the country under the sense of urgency and the ability to transform what they call a “warmth” – temperature at which everything melts, crumble and transmute.

Second Cauê Alves, chief curator of MAM São Paulo, “the schedule of 2024 MAM has an emphasis on the environmental discussion, especially on the exhibitions of George Love and Santídio Pereira. About MAM São Paulo

Founded in 1948, the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo is a civil society of public interest, nonprofit. Its collection has more than 5 thousand works produced by the most representative names of modern and contemporary art, mainly Brazilian.

Both the collection and the exhibitions privilege experimentalism, opening up to the plurality of world artistic production and the diversity of interests of contemporary societies.

The Museum maintains a wide range of activities that include courses, seminars, lectures, performances, musical shows, video sessions and artistic practices. Located in Ibirapuera Park, the most important green area in São Paulo, the MAM building was adapted by Lina Bo Bardi and has, beyond the exhibition halls, with studio, Library, Auditorium, restaurant and a shop where visitors find designer products, art books and a line of MAM-branded objects.

The Museum spaces are visually integrated with the Sculpture Garden, designed by Roberto Burle Marx to house works from the collection. All facilities are accessible to visitors with special needs.
