#MAS promotes class in Loco: “The City of Santos: Heritage, History and Memory Seats” with Professor. Fabricio Santos Forganes

objective:

The visit aims to present the history of the city of Santos from centuries-old churches and places of memory which still resist the tangle of historical downtown streets of this important port city. Taking as its starting point the Hill of Santa Catarina, the route goes through streets that preserve the old houses built at the height of the coffee temporality, enabling meet architectural landmarks such as the churches of the Carmelites, Franciscan and Benedictine. In addition to Catholic churches, in the class loco provide contact with the beautiful collection of the Museum of Sacred Art of Santos, a stop to taste the delicious coffee Coffee Museum, and a late afternoon admiring the beautiful view of the city from the observation deck located on top of Monte Serrat, privileged place and "patron saint of the home of Santos".

ROUTE OF CLASS:

Morning: The estimated time for the start of the route through the historic center of Santos is 9:00 a.m., It is the starting point of the Hill of Santa Catarina. From there the walk follows the Republic Square - site of the former Jesuit College from the town of Santos -, Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Pantheon dos Andradas, Rua XV de Novembro, Coffee Museum, Tuiuti street, Church of St. Anthony of Valongo and Commerce Street.

Late: Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Sacred Art Museum of Santos and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Serrat (option of cable car). Expected return to Sao Paulo 18:30.

The course content is designed for the general public interested in knowing the history of the city of Santos, one of the first villages founded in the sixteenth century Brazil, analyzing religious art and site architecture. However the approach in urban planning history X interface also arouses interest to historians, architects and planners, researchers, teachers wishing to develop the theme in the classroom, college students or professionals working in cultural preservation projects or equity.

Professor:

Fabricio Forganes Santos is an architect and urban planner graduated from the Catholic University of Santos. He has served as sacred art curator at the Museum of Sacred Art of Santos-SP and is currently professor at the Museum of Sacred Art of São Paulo. Develops his master's research, having as object the Churches of Brotherhoods of Black Men, a member of the Baroque design Encrypted FAPESP / USP and member of the Rosary Community in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black Men of Penha de France, which contributes to the inculturated liturgy celebrations.
