Renowned plastic artist Yara Tupynambá signs one of the works. The sculptures can be seen, for free, between days 3 and 31 de Mayo, in Liberty Square.

According to the latest bulletin of the Deforestation Alert System (SAD) Atlantic Forest, Minas Gerais was responsible for the largest deforestation of the Atlantic Forest in 2022. “We reduced the Atlantic Forest to about 9% than this huge forest once was. Most of the recent losses occurred in the state of Minas Gerais. All environmental education work is welcome, especially in this moment of global climate crisis, that is why it will be valuable for the exhibition to take place in Belo Horizonte, one of the great Brazilian capitals surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, the biome where most of the Brazilian population lives”, concludes Thiago Cóstackz.

About the Atlantic Forest and the species. Although it is one of the most degraded biomes in Brazil, because of disorderly and intensive explorations, the Atlantic Forest concentrates one of the greatest biodiversity on the planet. The biome is present in about 15% from Brazil and is home to 72% of Brazilians. In addition, it is important for the economy, since states located in the domains of the Atlantic Forest have 70% of participation in the national GDP. The native tree species represented at this event bring a very small portion of this richness that we have. Through art, the idea is to provide the population with new discoveries, since each species has a different shape, produces aromas and flavors that are unknown to most people, but they can have many different uses., from cooking to landscaping, promoting the appreciation of our regional biodiversity.
