Interview

Cristina, tell us a little about yourself ...

My name is Cristina Simone, I'm from Montevideo – URUGUAY.

I was born on 27 September 1953, I'm graduated in Nutrition.

Cristina Simone é Artista Plástica.
Cristina Simone is Plastic Artist.

After I retired from the profession, I dedicate myself to painting, I am self-taught, I studied on YouTube until in 2020 I started painting classes at Atelier Gervasio Astapenco.

Now it's my new profession and I'm very happy to be able to paint and study, improve my techniques, acrylic and oil painting, which is what I like the most.

When she awoke her desire to be an artist?

I always liked to paint, but for lack of time I started in 2016, when I retired from the profession.

I am proud to have started this new challenge and I try to improve every day more.

I am proud of my new profession.

What kind of art do you like best?

I like abstract art, although I got involved with figurative abstract art, landscapes, and now I seek to paint semi-figurative human figures, in a new series.

How he developed his style (techniques)?

Since even 2020 was totally self-taught, I started with acrylic, wired, chains, spatula, with relief and experimenting with different techniques.

I also tried it with oil using a spatula and brush.

Now that I study at Atelier, I started to learn different techniques, like lights and shadows, airspace, etc.

Cite if you had artistic influences in your works and which artists?

I have no reference to Artists, study on Youtube and then create my own paintings, according to what inspires me on the day.

Now I'm doing a series called CANDOMBE URUGUAY, and although I'm doing what my creativity inspires me.

There was an Artist, the mr. Carlos Paez Vilaro, born in uruguay (1923-2014) which has many murals with drum troupes, really wonderful.

He always wanted to be able to paint something on the Candombe.

This artist was a painter, Ceramist and Muralist, has its own Museum in Punta del Este, Uruguay and spectacular murals across the country.

Do you have a family member or acquaintance who is an artist?

Not really, in my family nobody is dedicated to painting and honestly I always liked to paint, but I didn't have time to paint.

So I dedicated myself to painting when I retired, in 2016.

Living from art is possible?

I have no experience in that sense, but I know that many Artists live off their art.

2020 it was not a very good year and now the whole world is in difficulties.

nevertheless, I've sold some paintings since I started painting.

Ever thought about not acting with more art? can comment why?

Not, it is really my new profession and I am very happy to be able to study, improve more each day.

Something wonderful happens to me, when I want to paint a picture that I have in my head, I start and get into painting and forget about the outside world.

What skills are needed today for the artist?

I think developing good techniques, be creative and feel pleasure and joy when the artistic task is being developed.

I feel happy painting and learning more each day.

What do you feel when you create or appreciate a work of art?

I like to analyze the paintings, I am detail in my paintings.

It gives me a lot of pleasure and joy, while I create and right after finishing them and looking at them I correct my mistakes.

Sometimes it's hard to know when it's really over, you always find some detail or something to improve.

Your inspirations to create a work of art?

How I study on YouTube, after looking at various pictures and how they are made, i come with my own painting applying some of the techniques i studied.

I make my paintings according to my inspiration from that day.

Which art has impressed you the most so far?

Music, Teatro, Museums. Art History I also like to study.

You must always be creating or creating only at certain times?

It depends on the time I can have, and also since 2020 it is very difficult to move around and still less to travel and learn about other cultures and their art.

The product of your work is unique or has a close or distant relationship to your previous work?

I started in 2016, so I'm experimenting with new techniques.

I like it and I'm happy to have incorporated other techniques, and in my opinion I like what I'm working on right now. I started with very elementary paintings, for being self-taught.

My paintings come from my own inspiration.

What are the challenges of art / artist in the current scenario?

Manage different techniques and materials, applying the knowledge I am acquiring.

My challenge is to improve myself more and more as an Artist, applying new knowledge and being able to capture my creations, without limitations.

Social networks have helped you to spread your work?

They have helped me to show my paintings, selling some of them.

And YouTube, to study and learn.

How plastic arts can contribute to education and culture?

Sign up to receive Event News
and the Universe of Arts first!

I think it should be a curricular subject.

They really stimulate creativity, the inspiration and development of our brain.

I think that knowledge should be transmitted from the moment children start their studies.

They open many doors on a personal and intellectual level.

How you analyze the qualities of a work of art?

Have knowledge of painting, technique, study, relationships between characters, lights and shadows, luminosity, etc.

What are the criteria for stipulating the value of a work of art?

I do not know much, because I'm not a painting expert at the moment.

I think the techniques, or material used, the theme, color relationships, the brightness, the workmanship.

Talk about your projects today ...

My current project is to study to improve my paintings, know the relationship of colors well and be able to paint better and more accurately.

I really like to paint and learn more and more.

What's your advice for those just starting out?

That it's wonderful to be able to express yourself, in my case through painting.

Have to strive, study a lot, if it is the art that the person loves, how is my case.

If you want to leave a message ...

I believe that every human being has his artistic part, no matter what discipline.

But you have to study, practice, strive, if it's really what the person loves, be very happy and do with effort and joy.

Don't give up on the first failed act.

About your exhibitions, have any comments regarding, feelings…

It is very gratifying to be able to participate in Exhibitions, Magazines, Calendars and meeting more people from the same profession.

Although, Unfortunately, given the world situation, everything is virtual.

Being able to publicize the work done and be able to share it with other colleagues, knowledge, and also exchange ideas about other arts and painting.
