The title of the series “The cherry season” (in Portuguese, “The time of cherries”), is a reference to the song composed by Jean Baptiste Clément and Antoine Renard in 1866 and which became a revolutionary song linked to the Paris Commune, French revolt that completes 150 years in 2021. The program is a celebration of French historical revolutions – like the common, the Tile Festival and the French Revolution, celebrated on the day 14 July – in addition to the uprisings and insurrections we've seen more recently, like the demonstrations of May 68 and the movement of “Yellow vests” seen in recent years.

The show features a selection of short films that address the theme of revolt and insurrection in different ways, be it a more classic approach or more intimate, bringing instances of revolt in the family or even animal environment, without leaving aside the already famous French revolutionary spirit.

Short film – History of the revolution, by Arthur de Pins Buisson

Highlight for the documentary The History of the Revolution (France-2019), from Maxime Martinot, that in 2020 participated in the Pantin Short Film Festival – Pantin (France) in the Panorama section, is an essay that explores the polysemy and reversibility of the word “revolution”, as well as the images arising from it, moving on the fight map: your grief, your glories, your features, intertwined today.

Also featured in the show, the short film “Rasta” (2019 | 29’ | Fiction), de Samir Benchikh, for its ability to imagine the spiral of war violence while creating an atmosphere of mystery and suspense. The short tells the story of a young Rasta from Côte d'Ivoire, traumatized by the conflict that destroys his country. Haunted by a past that hides, he begins a journey through the rebellion-dominated war zone, in search of a mysterious militiaman …

The film has surprising scenes and was presented at the “Regards d’Afrique” of the 42nd Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

For animation lovers, the nomination is the short film “The Crab Revolution” (2004 | 5’ | Fiction). Awarded at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Ottawa International Film Festival and Brooklyn International Film Festival, the short presents the history of crabs in the Gironde estuary. They have a serious disadvantage.: they cannot change direction and are condemned to walk in the same straight line all their lives. How do they live with this tragic fate? Free rating for all audiences, the short is a good choice to approach the theme with young people and adults.

The show "Short in French” is available at: sesc.digital/curtaemfrances.
