Diagnostic manuals and theories that focus on understanding this neurodiverse condition usually describe it from the deficits, be they socio-communicative, linked to aspects like Theory of Mind (understand the other's point of view as different from yours) or, yet, the comprehension skills of the whole (Central coherence). The challenges faced by people with ASD and their families are not negligible and the reflections to be shared do not seek to romanticize this experience. In this sense, Professor Maria Luísa will seek to narrow the neurotypical gaze and place it under the perspective of the perspective of neuro diversity: what people with autism, activists and researchers, have to say about these theories?

According to her, from the social model of disability, of the neurodiversity movement and contributions from anthropological readings on ASD, an attempt to place us on the neurotypic / neurodiverse boundary, as a space for mutual meeting, and not just produced by the constant effort that autistic people would have to make in order to express themselves. The specialist will invite participants to think of the border as a bridge, as an interface and as an invitation. In this sense, what invitations to the pandemic we live in, at this moment, presents us for a greater possible understanding and empathy about socio-communicative restrictions?
