Sculptures occupy Avenida Paulista in Corpus Christi to talk about peace

Works by sculptor Gilmar Pinna portray the path of Jesus and show the importance of the legacy of love and understanding

With more than 50 year career, the self-taught artist made a selection with 50 works of great proportions. Made during the last two years, the sculptures are forged in stainless steel and have between 3 and 7 meters of height.

The characters portrayed bring familiar scenes from the new testament, like the birth of the baby Jesus in the manger, the baptism by John the Baptist and the Via Crucis of the martyr, at the end of your life.

Influenced by artists such as the Italian Umberto Corsucci and the Spanish Fernando Odriozola (1921-1986), Pinna began carving 10 years old, at first with fragile materials such as sand and, years later, with copper, steel and iron. Some of your work, like the ones he exhibited at the Memorial da América Latina, in 2006, come to weigh 20 tons.

About the artist: Gilmar Pinna, 65 years, is from Ilhabela, coast of the state of São Paulo and lives and works in the city of Guarulhos. Started sculpting in childhood, having conquered, at the age of 12 years, the first Sand Sculpture Award on the North Coast of São Paulo. His works are exhibited in public squares in cities across the United States and in European countries., like Portugal and Spain. In São Paulo, already exhibited at the Conjunto Nacional, Ibirapuera Park and the Latin America Memorial. In 2013, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by FIG-UNIMESP Centro Universitário Metropolitano de São Paulo.
