Ema Klabin House Museum reopens to the public

There are more than 1.500 works by great masters of world art. Scheduled visits follow all biosafety protocols

The Ema Klabin House Museum, in Jardim Europa, São Paulo, reopened to the public with mediated visits to the house after a period closed due to the covid-19 pandemic. So that there is no agglomeration, the release remains subject to public control, mandatory use of mask and other biosafety protocols.

Face-to-face visits to the museum take place from Wednesday to Sunday, in groups of up to five people, at three times: 11h, 14h e 16h. Visits are now free and scheduling can be done through the website (emaklabin.org.br) or by phone: (11) 3897-3232.

the garden of the house museum, designed by Roberto Burle Marx, can be visited from wednesday to sunday, from 11:00 to 4:00 pm, with permanence until 17h. The garden capacity is 70 people.

Dialogue with world art

Visiting the Ema Klabin House Museum is to know or revisit works by great masters of art. Open to the public since March 2007, the house museum houses a valuable collection of more than 1.500 works, among paintings, furniture, archaeological and decorative pieces.

Former residence of the collector, businesswoman and patrons Ema Klabin (25/01/1907 – 27/01 /1994), the house preserves its original character. The building, single-storey, it is organized around a long semicircular gallery that unites all the spaces in the house.. Strolling through its rooms is a dialogue with world art.

The library was Ema's favorite environment. Among rare books and various works, stands out for fabric Ariadne, of the painter Rococo francês Jean-Baptiste Greuze (21st century. XVIII).

in the great hall of the house, where Ema held her parties and meetings, are willing, among others, the collection's most rare and important pieces, like the set of archaic Chinese bronzes (21st century. XIV a.C.), the european silverware (21st century. XVII – XIX), the italian majolicas (21st century. XVI) and oriental religious figures from different origins.

In the music room there are two works by Marc Chagall: no Country (in the countryside - France, 1925) and Grooms With Sled and Red Rooster (France, 1957). in the guest room, Tarsila do Amaral's painting, Rio de Janeiro (Brasil, 1923); in the dining room, Master Valentine's works (Brasil, 21st century. XIX); in the master bedroom, a painting by Cândido Portinari, Roosters (Brasil, 1940) and a Di Cavalcanti, Female Portrait (Brasil, 1955).

Hybrid format and new technologies

According to the superintendent of the Casa Museu Ema Klabin, Fernanda Paiva Guimarães, even with the reopening of the museum, the bet is on the hybrid format, that mixes face-to-face and digital.

So that now, with the help of technology, new experiences are being created, with different possibilities for people to explore and interact with the museum's works and environments.

"We have just digitized the works of visual arts (paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints) of the Ema Klabin Collection via BNDES+ Matchfunding notice 2020 and soon we will have the first virtual reality activity at Casa Museu, under development with the Junglebee, producer of multi-artist Tadeu Jungle”, explains Fernanda.

celebration of 15 years

In 2022, the Ema Klabin House Museum celebrates 15 years of openness to the public with a rich cultural program. According to curator Paulo Costa, the celebration of 15 years of public visitation to the House Museum will have as its theme Dichotomies.

"We will mobilize the sacred/profane binomials, scholar / popular, civilization/barbarism, cultural / natural, among others, to propose a break from the binarisms that are doing so much harm to all spheres of human life, in addition to reassessing the role of museums in presenting their collections to the public”, says Paul, which further explains that they are planned for 2022, two exhibitions that will demonstrate this proposal in dialogue with the Ema Klabin Collection.

Partnership with Osesp

In the days 9 October and 25 th November of 2021, at 4:30 pm, the Ema Klabin House Museum will receive concerts by the students of the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra's Academy of Music, which will be broadcast live on their YouTube channel in the context of their #TardesMusicalesEmCasa. In the program of the first concert, Osesp Music Academy String Students will present pieces by Villa-Lobos, Mozart and Piazzolla.

Fashion at the Museum

This year, from 30 October to 19 December, the Ema Klabin House Museum promotes the exhibition Ema and Fashion in the 20th century- the clothes and the calligraphy of the gestures curated by researcher and writer Brunno Almeida Maia. Until the month of November, there is also a series of lectures, workshops, courses and roundtable on the topic with big names in the area.

The exhibition Ema and Fashion in the 20th century: the clothes and the calligraphy of the gestures has cultural support from the Government of the State of São Paulo, through ProAC- ICMS from the Department of Culture and Creative Economy, sponsorship of Klabin S.A.. and Texprima and Texprima LOF support. Cultural programming is part of the project Digitization of the Ema Klabin Collection, which had the support of the BNDES, the co-idealization of Benfeitoria and Sitawi and the partnership with Beenoculus.
