"In 1223, in the town of Greccio, Italy, St. Francis of Assisi, after mass, reproduced the scene of the birth of Jesus, in a cave, using a manger without the boy, with an ox and a donkey. This first representation can best be characterized as a liturgical-dramatic way of presenting the birth of the Lord. (…)The popularization of the scene of the birth of Jesus happened from the 14th century, with the installation of cribs during Christmas, with terracotta figures, wax or wood. The tradition started in Italy, then expanded to Spain and other European countries, driven by the Franciscan priests, in order to convey the message of redemption, for representing the birth of Jesus. ”, explains D. Devair Araújo da Fonseca, Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo.

Clay, mud, paper, organic materials, metal, Among many, are transformed into pieces that make up the Nativity scene with technique and expertise from artists from diverse backgrounds and countless segments. The selection of the curator sought multiplicity to compose the unit.
