Yi Zhu, tell us a little about yourself ...

I am a Chinese oil painting painter. I was born on 1958 in Beijing, China, and I started to get interested in painting in high school and participated in the extracurricular activities of the art group in elementary school and high school. I graduated from a professional art school in Beijing and also studied drawing part-time at an art college.

March 1987, I created four illustrations for the novel: Moving Human Form, from the Chinese literary master Mr.. Wang Meng, which was published in Hong Kong and China Foreign Languages Press. I also participated in art exhibition book illustration by People’s Literature Publishing House at the National Museum of Art of China.

Yi Zhu é Artista Plástico.
Yi Zhu is a Plastic Artist.

I created illustrations for the novel Husband by Mr.. Shen Congwen, a great master of Chinese literature, and attended the literary illustration art exhibition held by the Chinese Artists Association Illustration and Decorative Art Committee at the National Museum of Art of China in November 1986.

In 1994, I founded my own design company, who provided services in graphic design and advertisements for Coca-Cola China, Budweiser China, Nestlé China and other brands. I won the best supplier award for creativity from the Marketing Department of Coca Cola China and the best supplier award from the Purchasing Department of Coca-Cola China.

I work with paint, as well as commercial art design.

When he woke up his desire to be an artist?

Commercial design is to serve customers (service), while painting is to express my subjective consciousness (subjective). I prefer the expression of subjective imagination when serving customers. That's why I chose to paint..

What kind of art do you like best?

Firstly, I like to see what is the content of artistic expression. I like what I can think, not from what i just saw. I like the expression of imagination, of the visual arts, do cinema, of music and dance.

I'm not painting. I'm painting ideas.

How he developed his style (techniques)?

I am the founder of Chinese deconstruction and reconstructivism in painting.

Deconstruct the material and rebuild the spirit.

My contribution is to integrate deconstruction and reconstruction into the big picture of contemporary Chinese oil painting and printmaking with the idea of systems integration, in order to create new ways of thinking.

Cite if you had artistic influences in your works and which artists?

My artworks are mainly influenced by the Austrian philosopher Wittgenstein. On both sides of the frame there is a border. My works are the painter's subjective within the border, while outside the frame is the reader's goal. The frontier of expression is the frontier of the world.

Do you have a family member or acquaintance who is an artist?

My wife is an independent Chinese painter.

Living from art is possible?

Life still depends on commercial design income, mainly because I'm currently painting, without trusting brokers, galleries or curators. I did not enter the commercial paint market!

Ever thought about not acting with more art? can comment why?

Painting is not performance. Painting is expression in works! Important artworks must be evocative. But I'm not against anything that helps promote art, as long as it makes people like it..

What skills are needed today for the artist?

Artists in the modern digital world must be critical talents with literary skills, musical, theatrical and dance, in addition to computing.

The artists must understand digital communication.

What do you feel when you create or appreciate a work of art?

Listen to the music and watch the work in silence.

Your inspirations to create a work of art?

deconstruction and reconstruction: deconstruct the creative elements. Deconstruct the material and rebuild the spirit.

Which art has impressed you the most so far?

Cinema.

You must always be creating or creating only at certain times?

What are the challenges of art / artist in the current scenario?

In the context of the current pandemic, the lack of solidarity between artists around the world shows the weakness and loneliness of artists before the pandemic.
