The Museum of sacred art promotes, the Free Course: “Faith in the history of Brazilian Art: A journey through the history of Sacred Art in Brazil through the collection of the MAS” with the Prof. José Augusto New.

Objective of the course

Present Sacred Art present in Brazil with his changes of style and construction of the works according to the devotional customs present in Brazil since the sixteenth century; and based on their religious devotional nature, know the path of an image or frame by everyday life of the people and their customs and culture that made each picture one piece in its time and place, even when it entered as part of a broader artistic style context in art history.

José Augusto New He graduated in Visual Arts, Pedagogy and Portuguese Language and English, postgraduate degree in Art Education, Musical education, psychopedagogy, Teaching in Higher Education, Theology and Philosophy. Professor, artist and restorer for over 15 years is academic researcher to work in several countries.

Day 15 August: Brazilian Sacred Art. Faith and religion since the sixteenth century
Day 19 September: religious images. Styles and techniques in the service of faith.
Day 24 October: As the faithful relates to religious images? The prayers in churches and at home, cleaning and conservation of popular images in the home, the images in their historical and museological aspect.
Day 21 November: The culture, faith and habits of everyday life and their influence on artistic styles present in Sacred Art.
