Exhibition with accessibility, containing works with audio description and tactile pieces.
The SESI Itapetininga presents the exhibition Land Land Territory, the photographer and visual artist Dani Sandrini, from the day 3 of June (Friday), at the Benedito Marques da Silva Activities Center, with visitation free.
The artist uses two 19th century photographic printing techniques to propose a reflection on what it is like to be indigenous in large cities, in the 21st century.
The images were captured by Dani Sandrini during the year of 2019, in São Paulo, in indigenous villages (where the Guarani ethnicity predominates) and in the urban context (which houses approximately 53 ethnicities). Land Land Territory consists of two photographic groups, in which the printing is done by hand on papers sensitized with the pigment extracted from the jenipapo fruit (the same that indigenous people use in body painting) and directly on plant leaves (taioba, syntonium, malvavisco, blackberry and sweet potato). both processes – called anthotype and phytotype, respectively – are given by hand, through the action of sunlight, at times ranging from three days to five weeks of exposure.
The photographic images – of sizes ranging from 10×15 a 50x75cm – bring an inverse temporality to the current photographic practice, the speed of the click and the virtual image. “The long exposure time invites deceleration to observe the surroundings with another time and from a different perspective. like nature, where everything transforms, these processes produce vivid images, a reference to the permanent transformation of indigenous culture, that didn't freeze 520 years ago", reflects the artist.
The delicacy of the organic process also brings a consequent fragility to the photographs with the passage of time.. The artist explains that “depending on the incidence of natural light directly on the image, for example, can lead to erasure”. Sandrini's conception considers this possibility as a parallel to the historical erasure that indigenous culture has been suffering in our country.. She says that “the proposal also favors the discussion about photography with its character of memory and document as something immutable., expanding its contours and being able to link to the documentary in a much more subjective way. Certainty is transformation. The photo does not freeze time. The supports that house the photographs here generate other meanings”, reflects.
With Land Land Territory the photographer alerts to the need to understand indigenous culture beyond the clichés that flatten the diversity of the term. "On here, the intention is exactly the opposite: is to flatten, remember that many indigenous people live on our side and we don't even realize. Have you ever wondered why this story was deleted??”, comments Dani that, In the project, photographed people of different ethnicities, from different regions of the country, sometimes posing for a portrait sometimes in their routines, your activities, your events, rituals or celebrations.
Land Land Territory was born from the project Darueira, in 2018, contemplated in the 1st Public Notice to Support the Creation and Photographic Exhibition, of the Municipal Secretary of Culture of São Paulo through the Supervision of Fostering the Arts. Accomplished, in 2019, won an exhibition at the Mario de Andrade Library, from october to december. In 2020 (no online format, due to the pandemic), the exhibition passed through the Municipal Art Gallery, from the Plínio Arlindo de Nes Culture and Events Center (Chapecó/SC), Cali Photo Fest (Colombia) and Small Photography Encounter (Olinda / PE). In 2021, joined the Photothings Festival (online exhibition in the São Paulo subway; essay chosen to integrate the Photothings Collection). In 2022, in addition to circulation by units of SESI São Paulo, was selected for the Exhibition Latinas en Paris (Photographer Latam, Latin American Photographers Foundation).
Dani Sandrini – Photographer and visual artist living in São Paulo, Dani Sandrini develops documentary and artistic projects, since 2014, despite being a commercial photographer, since 1998. Depending on the project and its singularities, your photograph is placed on canvas or paper, but it can also contain other elements that add meaning to the final image, as well as extra layers of subjectivity. Researches the intertwining of materials and supports with the photographic image and the action of time on it. Dani has experience in alternative photographic processes and develops projects using transfer printing, stenopeic photography, cyanotype, antotype and phytotype.
