#BUT Expressions In Sacred Art: “Four symbols of the Gospels” – Practical Course

The Museum of sacred art promotes the day 25 November a practical course on Expressions In Sacred Art: Four symbols of the Gospels with Prof. Specialist Silvana Borges.

In the Christian tradition, the authors attributed to the creation of the New Testament Gospels are the Four Evangelists: Matthew, Marcos, Luke and John, that the sacred art are respectively represented by iconographic Angel, Lion, Bull and Eagle. They are called Evangelists, that is, “those who proclaim good news”, because his books tell the “good news” Of Jesus, theme that we will use in practice workshop for the Christmas cards manufacturing.

lecture (from 10h00 to 12h00): The representations of the evangelists and the different styles and decorations of the Gospels manuscripts in the Middle Ages. Presentation of iconographic variants in the representations of the four evangelists throughout the history of Christian art: the statuary, architecture and mural, exemplifying the use of the attributes of each saint and the symbolism of mandorla.

practical workshop (from 13h00 to 16h00): Manufacturing custom cards, where each participant will receive an individual kit with tempera paint 05 customized cards for painting on paper of some printed illuminated models of the evangelists and the advent of the Nativity. It will be used parchment paper and art paper (30% cotton) to use the technique suminagashi (floating ink). No experience is required for participation in painting. The material is included in the course fee. The student must bring only two fine brushes of No. 0 (zero) for personal use.

Silvana Borges is an artist and architect expert in conservation and restoration in the fields of Sacred Art (paint and imaginary) and Architecture (wall art), professional affiliated with the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the Brazilian Association of Conservatives and Restorers of Cultural Property (ABRACOR) and the Brazilian Imaginary Studies Center (CEIB). Lectures and courses on the preservation of heritage and artistic techniques. His works are published in prestigious art catalogs and literary collections, receiving several awards and trophies, present in exhibitions and collections in countries like Mexico, Italy, USA, France, Spain, Holland, Hungary, Portugal and China on a path 30 years of artistic and literary activities.
