Artist Claudia Watkins presents a canvas from a series that addresses deforestation

Claudia Watkins participates in the group show “Elas”, which has just opened at Galeria Paulo Branquinho, in Lapa, until day 28 July.

In exhibition which marks the reopening of the space, closed since the pandemic, Claudia employs mixed media on canvas that is part of the “Mind Scapes” series. This is one of his most recent works., from 2022 and 2023 that address the instability of land altered by deforestation, burned, anything that destabilizes the ground.

“I try to create a visible world by suggesting another; similar, however more unstable, inconstant, fluid. Landscapes of the Mind”, she says.

Living in Teresópolis since the years 90, the artist, who has been painting for more than three decades, developed his technique practically on his own – in the State of Minas Gerais, came to try the natural pigments.

Having participated in several conferences, Claudia Watkins has already performed some singles throughout her career, including “Symbolic Archaeology”, in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Rio de Janeiro, 2002), "Modules XVIII", at the Correios Cultural Space (Niterói, 1999), “Archaeology of Abstraction” and “Archeology of Lucidity” (Museum of the Republic, 1996 and 1995, respectively).
