March of many stories in the activities of CCBB Educativo in Rio de Janeiro

From day 16 March, the CCBB Educativo team offers mediated visits to the exhibition Marc Chagall: Love dream. It will be a dive into the painter's universe, bringing russian stories, Tales of Jewish Tradition, stories dealing with issues relating to painting (brushstroke, colors, composition). The fables will also be present in the repertoire of activities, because the exhibition brings the graphic series of the Fables of La Fontaine, with 102 artist's prints. The project is sponsored by Banco do Brasil through the federal culture incentive law.

Following are the actions that take place on Saturdays and Sundays

By including stories in your mediation roadmap, the educator offers the public a new look at the content of the exhibition. When the visitor transports himself to the role of a listener to a story, he's compacting with fiction. There's no better way to live experiences?

Story Time takes place on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm and 3 pm.

fables

French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine, who lived in the 17th century, wrote stories that teach a moral, a lesson to be learned and that has animals with human characteristics as protagonists. Some of them are well known, such as “The Cicada and the Ant” and “The Fox and the Grapes”. Chagall, in the first half of the 20th century, illustrated a large number of these fables by La Fontaine and 102 of them will be at the CCBB exhibition.

One of the fables that will be presented at CCBB Educativo's Tale Hour is called: “The Peacock Complaining to Juno”. In this fable the peacock, the most beautiful of birds, complains to the Roman goddess Juno for not finding her singing beautiful. Outraged by the animal's ingratitude, Juno proposes that you change your imposing tail for a more pleasant voice. Sorry, the peacock soon changes his mind and decides to be content with his colorful feathers and out of tune singing..

Russian stories

The son of a Jewish family, Chagall was the oldest of nine children.. The landscape, the characters and scenes of the village of Vitebsk, in the former Russian Empire were always searched in the artist's work. That's why CCBB Educativo mediators take visitors to Eastern Europe, on cold Russian winter days, where all you see is the white landscape, covered with snow and also for the sunny days of summer when the village characters go on adventures.

Among the selected stories are:

Bone Button Soup” – a wanderer faces the icy Russian winter thinking that he will soon arrive in a village where he will be welcomed by the residents. But that's not exactly how things go. In the small village, everyone is very poor and they don't usually share what little they have with strangers.. But that can change, when the wanderer promises to cook a delicious soup with the buttons of his coat. By ripping off the bone buttons of an overcoat and dipping them in hot water, the foreigner arouses the curiosity of the villagers., that little by little are getting closer. And who knows if one of them gives an onion, another a potato… this soup does not go on to perfume the kitchen and soothe the souls?

A house not so tight” – We all had to relearn how to live with family or friends during the pandemic. Suddenly the house became our world. The school went into the houses, as well as work and often leisure. It was not easy to rethink the spaces we occupy inside the house. That's why this story that was told in Russian villages brings such a current teaching. A man will complain to the village sage how cramped his house is with his wife, mother-in-law and children. How did the sage advise this man?

the magic moment

In Chagall's painting they fly through the skies, couples in love, sleds, star in screens and are part of their dreams, horses and clocks. It's as if gravity doesn't exist and people, animals and objects could float through the air. Ana Maria Machado says that to read a fairy tale you have to make a pact, you have to believe in make-believe. Therefore, among the selected stories are tales of flying carpets and of painters who enter the canvases in the repertoire..

Let's live experiences from fiction

This activity is aimed at children from 3 to 6 years, The CCBB is a place for children.

Little Hands Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm

How to talk about the concepts present in the exhibitions in a way that young children understand? How to create moments that provide contact with the work, the watchful eye and experimentation in a meaningful way?

Daniela Chindler, coordinator of CCBB Educativo, believes that it is possible to bring content and concepts present in the exhibitions in a playful way. Fun is not just entertainment: is loaded with meaning.

Visitors who are taking their first steps into the galleries, will have two activities created especially for them.

little hands – Story Box

In the early nineteenth century, the theater was very popular, staged both in squares and markets, like in concert halls. Mobile stages were common, such as stage wagons and puppet theaters. In this context, the Frenchman Louis Daguerre invented the first diorama, a visual spectacle in which spectators watched animated scenes that changed appearance with stage and lighting effects. The diorama is a variant of theatrical scenography and is considered a precursor element of cinematography.. Today dioramas are widely used in museums to reproduce a scene.

CCBB Educativo set up small scenic boxes, inspired by dioramas, for children to act out or recreate the fables. Scenarios and animals will be moved with sticks in this game.
