Tássia Reis - “The female expression in its fullness”

tassia, tell us a little about yourself..

My name is Tássia Reis, I was born in 1990 in the city of Lagarto, in the state of Sergipe. I grew up in a rural area and always loved being in the “middle of the bush”, and even today I have this need to renew my energies through contact with nature. Although the circumstances of life have postponed the realization of my dream, it was in adulthood that I was finally able to dedicate myself to the so dreamed of art, and today I have it as a profession.

When the desire to be a visual artist awoke?

My desire to be an artist has always been present since I was a child. Although I didn't grow up in an environment where art was fostered, whenever I was asked what I wanted to be, soon answered: "I want to be a painter!”. I think I was born with this desire in my heart.

What kind of art do you like best?

I'm quite eclectic, and I'm touched by various types and modality of art.. However, the type of art I like the most is contemporary art..

How did you develop your style and techniques?

My style developed naturally, partly studying artists that I identify with and also experiencing a lot. I went through realism, Impressionism, post-impressionism and contemporary art, and currently i can say that my style is a mixture of all this. I'm always looking to dare and “invent” my own techniques.

Cite if you had artistic influences in your works and which artists?

My style is very intuitive, but some artists influenced me a lot, among them Van Gogh, Renoir, Leonid Afremov, Gerhard Richter, Tarsila do Amaral, Frida Kahlo and Eduardo Kobra.

Do you have a family member or acquaintance who is an artist?

Unfortunately there are no plastic artists in my family, but there was a wonderful embroiderer who was my grandmother. It was from her that I inherited my artistic influence.

Living from art is possible?

For me, to live on art is possible yes, despite the difficulties (that are many!). Today we can count on the help of social networks, where reach you, the exposure and contact with people is enormous..

Ever thought about not acting with more art? Can you comment why?

I can't imagine my life without art. I see myself with 100 years and still painting… because this is what fills my being most with fullness and happiness.

What skills are needed today for the artist?

In addition to artistic skills, which varies according to the style of each one, every visual artist must have minimal knowledge of digital marketing, use of social media and entrepreneurship.

What do you feel when you create or appreciate a work of art?

When I create or enjoy a work of art, I feel butterflies in my stomach…I feel I connect with transcendental energies, and that I'm doing what I was born to do… it's always an immense happiness!

Your inspirations to create a work of art?

My inspirations come mainly from nature and femininity, exploring themes like beauty, power, love, melancholy, resilience, force, spirituality and pain.

Which art has impressed you the most so far?

The art what has impressed me the most so far is the painting “A Noite Estrelada”, the Vincent van Gogh. Just thinking about her gives me chills!

You must always be creating or creating only at certain times?

I'm always creating, even if you're not holding the brush. Usually my creations flow one after another, however, sometimes I "pack" in a certain work and, on these occasions, I try to take a break to be able to renew my energies, resume the flow and continue the work.

The product of your work is unique or has a close or distant relationship to your previous work?

I think of each work of mine as if they were unique, without thinking of any continuity link between them. However, when i see them side by side, they always give me the feeling that, somehow, are closely related.

What are the challenges of art / artist in the current scenario?

We live in a very good time in terms of public reach and visibility, although, in the face of the current financial crisis in our country, unfortunately many people are experiencing difficulties and, in these cases, art is no longer a priority for them, and I understand perfectly. However, we have to always be reinventing ourselves and looking for our space and our audience. I believe there is space for everyone, but finding this space is not the easiest task.. persistence is the only way!

Social networks have helped you to spread your work?

social networks (mainly instagram) have helped me a lot, but soooo in promoting my work. Nowadays, unless you are already an established and consolidated artist in the market, I think that every artist has an "obligation" to use social media as a dissemination tool, audience engagement and sales.

How plastic arts can contribute to education and culture?

For me, art awakens in people the enchantment with beauty, social inquiries, existential reflections, the feeling of hope and the desire for a better world. And these factors certainly end up motivating people to seek to develop as a human being, through study, from the practice of sports, reflection on your role as a citizen, in addition to professional and spiritual development.

How you analyze the qualities of a work of art?

It's something that is very difficult to explain., for being very subjective. But I think that what most calls my attention in a work of art is the balance between the techniques used and the messages and feelings that it awakens in me.. Another very important factor for me is the subtlety in the way the work's messages and feelings are conveyed., as this allows for a very intimate and striking interpretation of the work of art..

What are the criteria for stipulating the value of a work of art?

I use several objective criteria to determine the value of my work, being they: the screen size, the amount of ink used, the complexity of the techniques used, the time it took me to complete the work. There is also a subjective factor, as the "artistic weight" of the work, that is, the strength, the power of the message transmitted on the screen.

Talk about your projects today

I am, today, reaping fruit after so much study and persistence. I'm getting several invitations to participate in virtual and face-to-face exhibitions, and this is my focus at the moment. I also became an Individual Microentrepreneur (MAY) recently, and this is opening up new possibilities for me. I am very happy with my current artistic moment..

What's your advice for those just starting out?

Although I don't have much experience myself, can i advise, for those starting now, to think about the works that touch your heart the most and seek to study them, both technically and conceptually. Also allow yourself to be bold and insert your own ideas, don't limit yourself! Gradually you will consolidate your artistic identity.

About your exhibitions, have any comments regarding, feelings…

I haven't participated in exhibitions yet., because my artistic ascent took place in a somewhat meteoric way. So that now, as I said earlier, I have been receiving invitations, consolidated partnerships and I have some exhibitions scheduled, that will happen very soon!

Could you comment on some artistic curiosity?

An important artistic curiosity that people sometimes don't realize is the fact that the great genius Vincent van Gogh only sold one painting., despite having painted about 900 works in about 10 year career. In my opinion, Van Gogh is the most inspiring figure of all, a being who overflowed with art and who painted because he needed to do it, regardless of recognition or financial return.
